Saudi Arabia gives Israel clear skies to attack Iranian nuclear sites

Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.
In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.

To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defences will return to full alert.
“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a US defence source in the area. “They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [US] State Department.”

Sources in Saudi Arabia say it is common knowledge within defence circles in the kingdom that an arrangement is in place if Israel decides to launch the raid. Despite the tension between the two governments, they share a mutual loathing of the regime in Tehran and a common fear of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We all know this. We will let them [the Israelis] through and see nothing,” said one.

The four main targets for any raid on Iran would be the uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz and Qom, the gas storage development at Isfahan and the heavy-water reactor at Arak. Secondary targets include the lightwater reactor at Bushehr, which could produce weapons-grade plutonium when complete.

The targets lie as far as 1,400 miles (2,250km) from Israel; the outer limits of their bombers’ range, even with aerial refuelling. An open corridor across northern Saudi Arabia would significantly shorten the distance. An airstrike would involve multiple waves of bombers, possibly crossing Jordan, northern Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Aircraft attacking Bushehr, on the Gulf coast, could swing beneath Kuwait to strike from the southwest.

Passing over Iraq would require at least tacit agreement to the raid from Washington. So far, the Obama Administration has refused to give its approval as it pursues a diplomatic solution to curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Military analysts say Israel has held back only because of this failure to secure consensus from America and Arab states. Military analysts doubt that an airstrike alone would be sufficient to knock out the key nuclear facilities, which are heavily fortified and deep underground or within mountains. However, if the latest sanctions prove ineffective the pressure from the Israelis on Washington to approve military action will intensify. Iran vowed to continue enriching uranium after the UN Security Council imposed its toughest sanctions yet in an effort to halt the Islamic Republic’s nuclear programme, which Tehran claims is intended for civil energy purposes only. President Ahmadinejad has described the UN resolution as “a used handkerchief, which should be thrown in the dustbin”.

Israeli officials refused to comment yesterday on details for a raid on Iran, which the Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has refused to rule out. Questioned on the option of a Saudi flight path for Israeli bombers, Aharaon Zeevi Farkash, who headed military intelligence until 2006 and has been involved in war games simulating a strike on Iran, said: “I know that Saudi Arabia is even more afraid than Israel of an Iranian nuclear capacity.”

In 2007 Israel was reported to have used Turkish air space to attack a suspected nuclear reactor being built by Iran’s main regional ally, Syria. Although Turkey publicly protested against the “violation” of its air space, it is thought to have turned a blind eye in what many saw as a dry run for a strike on Iran’s far more substantial — and better-defended — nuclear sites.

Israeli intelligence experts say that Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are at least as worried as themselves and the West about an Iranian nuclear arsenal.Israel has sent missile-class warships and at least one submarine capable of launching a nuclear warhead through the Suez Canal for deployment in the Red Sea within the past year, as both a warning to Iran and in anticipation of a possible strike. Israeli newspapers reported last year that high-ranking officials, including the former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, have met their Saudi Arabian counterparts to discuss the Iranian issue. It was also reported that Meir Dagan, the head of Mossad, met Saudi intelligence officials last year to gain assurances that Riyadh would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets violating Saudi airspace during the bombing run. Both governments have denied the reports.

Ryan Crocker, a recently retired State Department expert and former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, told the Senate that America should talk to Hizbullah in order to “mess with [their] mind.”

"Simply put, we cannot mess with our adversary's mind if we are not talking to him,” Crocker said. He advocated talks with Hizbullah members who are part of the Lebanese parliament and cabinet.

Crocker brought his experiences in Iraq as proof of his argument. “One thing I learned in my time in Iraq is that engagement can be extremely valuable in ending an insurgency. Sometimes persuasion and negotiation change minds,” he said.

Even if America cannot convince Hizbullah to abandon terrorism, “we would learn far more about the organization than we know now,” including its weaknesses, he argued.

Crocker also argued for strengthening the Lebanese army, despite the fact that the government coalition includes Hizbullah, which the U.S. has classified as a terrorist organization.

Senior officials in the Obama administration rejected Crocker's proposal. “Our policy is non-engagement with Hizbullah... and I don't anticipate that policy changing,” said senior State Department official Jeffrey Feltman. The U.S. might be willing to talk with Hizbullah if the group were to disband its armed forces and cease terrorist activity, he said, but not before.

In one of the many strange features of Obama's presidential candidacy, his 2008 campaign went to great lengths to conceal normally routine information about the candidate's college years.

The information included his first two undergraduate years at Occidental College in Los Angeles, followed by his final two years and graduation from Columbia University in New York City.

No official or unofficial records were ever made available. No college transcripts, published records, or even contemporary newspaper announcements about his education have been released.

Obama remarkably relates in his autobiography "Dreams from My Father" that, beginning at Occidental, he surrounded himself with an assortment of radicals, socialists, Marxist-Leninists, Maoists and communists.
Obama, however, provides neither names nor clues.

"The Manchurian President" uncovers a slew of radicals with whom Obama associated during his college years.

SDS founder

It was at Occidental that Obama first engaged in community activism, delivering what has been described as the first political speech of his career. On Feb. 18, 1981, Obama addressed students gathered outside Coons Hall administration building, exhorting Occidental's trustees to divest from South Africa.
Obama writes in "Dreams" about the rally in which he took part, reportedly led by the Black Student Alliance and Students for Economic Democracy.
Obama agreed to deliver the opening remarks for the rally, for which, he writes, "the agenda had been carefully arranged beforehand." In the middle of his speech "a couple of white students" were to come onstage, "dressed in their paramilitary uniforms," to drag him away. "A bit of street theater, a way to dramatize the situation for activists in South Africa," Obama writes.

Students for Economic Democracy, or SED, was a national student advocacy group established by soon-to-be California State Representative Tom Hayden, now a professor at Occidental, and his former wife, actress Jane Fonda
Hayden authored the 1962 "Port Huron Statement," the first official political manifesto of the Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS – the radical 1960s protest movement from which Ayers' Weathermen terrorist organization splintered.
An example of Hayden's brash rhetoric dates to his December 1968 testimony before the House Committee on Un-American Activities on the Chicago "anti-war protests."
At the committee, a portion of Hayden's SDS manifesto was read:

"Disobey your parents: burn your money: you know life is a dream and all of our institutions are man-made illusions effective because YOU take the dream for reality. … Break down the family, church, nation, city, economy; turn life into an art form, a theatre of the soul and a theatre of the future; the revolutionary is the only artist. … What's needed is a generation of people who are freaky, crazy, irrational, sexy, angry, irreligious, childish and mad: people who burn draft cards, burn high school and college degrees; people who say: "To hell with your goals!"; people who lure the youth with music, pot and acid; people who re-define the normal; people who break with the status-role-title-consumer game; people who have nothing material to lose but their flesh. …"

When asked if this was "the way to have a better America," Hayden called them "beautiful sentiments."
The official mission statement for Hayden's SED, for which Obama delivered a major speech, espouses socialist ideology:

"Economic democracy means that ownership and control will be spread among a wide variety of public bodies: city, state and Federal governments, churches, trade unions, cooperatives and community groups, small business people, workers and consumers."

Hayden later was a founding member of Progressives for Obama, a matrix of radicals who supported Obama's presidential candidacy.

Meanwhile, "Manchurian" relates Obama's involvement with the anti-apartheid movement, which sparked a firestorm of activism at Occidental.

Political mentors

The book rejects as unlikely speculation from various media outlets that two Occidental professors, Roger Boesche and Eric Newhall, served as Obama's political mentors at the time.

Instead, "Manchurian" finds the most likely candidate to be Occidental professor Gary Chapman, whose background includes "military service, academic research and organizational experience."

Chapman's political organization and campaign experience also includes "peace issues" with the New American Movement, or NAM. The lineage of NAM is associated with that of the Democratic Socialists of America. NAM also is identified as a "splinter group" of Hayden's and Ayers' SDS.

Obama has revealed almost nothing about his last two years as an undergraduate at Columbia University's Columbia College.
Obama has said he was involved with the Black Students Organization, which emerged in the 1960s in response to a growing black student population at Columbia. Undergraduates formed the Student Afro-American Society, "which was concerned with the affairs of black students and issues of the greater black community."
The Coalition for a Free South Africa, or CFSA, began as a Black Students' Organization committee to promote Columbia University's divestment in stock in companies doing business in South Africa.

CFSA, which split from the Black Students' Organization in 1981, was a loosely structured group with a predominantly black steering committee of about a dozen individuals who made decisions by consensus, and a less active circle of about fifty students who attended meetings and the group's protests and educational events."
Early CFSA leaders were Danny Armstrong, a Columbia College student who played forward for Columbia's basketball team, and Barbara Ransby, a student from the School of General Studies

As CFSA spokeswoman, Ransby famously convinced Columbia's student senate "to support full divestment."
Ransby, now an associate professor of African-American studies and history at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and the executive director of Public Square, was in the class of 1984 at Columbia, only one year behind Obama, who would later publicly appear with both Ransby and Ayers.

In April 2002, Ransby appeared at a University of Illinois-Chicago forum and sat on the same panel – "Intellectuals in Times of Crisis: Experiences and applications of intellectual work in urgent situations" – with both Obama and Ayers.
Obama knew FCC chief from Columbia activism?

Another name that emerges from Obama's involvement with the Black Students' Organization and Coalition for a Free South Africa is that of Julius Genachowski.
In October 2008, Genachowski, co-founder of the venture capital firm LaunchBox Digital, was described as "an adviser to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama."

Obama and Genakowski were later Harvard Law School classmates.
In August 2008 it was reported in the New York Times that Genachowski, who led the Obama campaign's technology working group, was also a big fundraiser. Genachowski raised at least $500,000 as an Obama "bundler."

In March 2009, Obama nominated Genachowski to chair the Federal Communications Commission, and he was sworn in June 29, 2009.

Book uncovers radical nexus

Along with a chapter on Ayers, "The Manchurian President" includes an extensive investigation into Obama's own background. The work uncovers, among many other things, Obama's early years, including his previously overlooked early childhood ties to a radical, far-left church connected to Ayers' ideology.
Obama's associations with the Nation of Islam, Black Liberation Theology and black political extremists are also revealed, with extensive new information on the subjects.

Also detailed are Obama's deep ties to ACORN, which are much more extensive than previously documented elsewhere. The book crucially describes how a socialist-led, ACORN-affiliated union helped facilitate Obama's political career and now exerts major influence in the White House.

"The Manchurian President" contains potentially explosive information not only about President Obama but also concerning other officials in the White House, including top czars and senior advisers Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod.

Our World: Hamas rises in the West

By backing the terrorist group against Israel, western countries are backing Hamas against Fatah and Islamist states against ME moderates.
Since the navy’s May 31 takeover of the Turkish-Hamas flotilla, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his advisers have deliberated around the clock about how to contend with the US-led international stampede against Israel. But their ultimate decision to form an investigatory committee led by a retired Supreme Court justice and overseen by foreign observers indicates that they failed to recognize the nature of the international campaign facing us today.

Led by US President Barack Obama, the West has cast its lot with Hamas. It is not surprising that Obama is siding with Hamas. His close associates are leading members of the pro-Hamas Free Gaza outfit. Obama’s friends, former Weather Underground terrorists Bernadine Dohrn and William Ayres participated in a Free Gaza trip to Egypt in January. Their aim was to force the Egyptians to allow them into Gaza with 1,300 fellow Hamas supporters. Their mission was led by Code Pink leader and Obama fund-raiser Jodie Evans. Another leading member of Free Gaza is James Abourezk, a former US senator from South Dakota.

All of these people have open lines of communication not only to the Obama White House, but to Obama himself.

Obama has made his sympathy for the Muslim Brotherhood clear several times since entering office. The Muslim Brotherhood’s progeny include Hamas, al-Qaida and the Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Last June, Obama infuriated the Egyptian government when he insisted on inviting leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood to attend his speech at Al Azhar University in Cairo. His administration’s decision to deport Hamas deserter and Israeli counterterror operative Mosab Hassan Yousef to the Palestinian Authority where he will be killed is the latest sign of its support for radical Islam.

Given Obama’s attitude toward jihadists and the radical leftists who support them, his decision to support Hamas against Israel makes sense. What is alarming however is how leaders of the free world are now all siding with Hamas. That support has become ever more apparent since the Mossad’s alleged killing of Hamas terror master Mahmoud al-Mabhouh at his hotel in Dubai in January.

In the aftermath of Mabhouh’s death, both Britain and Australia joined the Dubai-initiated bandwagon in striking out against Israel. Israel considers both countries allies, or at least friendly and has close intelligence ties with both. Yet despite their close ties, Australia and Britain expelled Israeli diplomats who supposedly had either a hand in the alleged operation or who work for the Mossad.

It should be noted that neither country takes steps against outspoken terror supporters who call for Israel to be destroyed and call for the murder of individual Israelis.

For instance, in an interview last month with The Australian, Ali Kazak, the former PLO ambassador to Australia, effectively solicited the murder of The Jerusalem Post’s Palestinian affairs correspondent Khaled Abu Toameh. Kazak told the newspaper, “Khaled Abu Toameh is a traitor.”

Allowing that many Palestinians have been murdered for such accusations, Kazak excused those extrajudicial murders saying, “Traitors were also murdered by the French Resistance, in Europe; this happens everywhere.”

Not only did Australia not expel Kazak or open a criminal investigation against him, as a consequence of his smear campaign against Abu Toameh, several Australians cancelled their scheduled meetings with him.

AND OF course, this week we have the actions of Germany and Poland. They are considered Israel’s best friends in Europe, and yet acting on a German arrest warrant, Poland has arrested a suspected Mossad officer named Uri Brodsky for his alleged involvement in the alleged Mossad operation against Mabhouh. Israel is now caught in a diplomatic disaster zone where its two closest allies – who again are only too happy to receive regular intelligence updates from the Mossad – are siding with Hamas against it.

And then of course we have the EU’s call for Israel to cancel its lawful blockade of the Gaza coast. That is, the official position of the EU is that an Iranian proxy terrorist organization should be allowed to gain control over a Mediterranean port and through it, provide Iran with yet another venue from which it can launch attacks against Europe.

For their part, the Sunni Arabs are forced to go along with this. The Egyptian regime considers the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood took over Gaza a threat to its very survival and has been assiduously sealing its border with Gaza for some time. And yet, unable to be more anti-Hamas than the US, Australia and Europe, Mubarak is opening the border. Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa’s unprecedented visit to Gaza this week should be seen as a last ditch attempt by Egypt to convince Hamas to unify its ranks with Fatah. Predictably, the ascendant Hamas refused his entreaties.

As for Fatah, it is hard not to feel sorry for its leader Mahmoud Abbas these days. In what was supposed to be a triumphant visit to the White House, Abbas was forced to smile last week as Obama announced the US will provide $450 million in aid to his sworn enemies who three years ago ran him and his Fatah henchmen out of Gaza.

So too, Abbas is forced to cheer as Obama pressures Israel to give Hamas an outlet to the sea. This will render it impossible for Fatah to ever unseat Hamas either by force or at the ballot box. Hamas’s international clout demonstrates to the Palestinians that jihad pays.THERE ARE three plausible explanations for the West’s decision to back Hamas. All of them say something deeply disturbing about the state of the world. The first plausible explanation is that the Americans and the rest of the West are simply naïve. They believe that by backing Hamas, they are advancing the cause of Middle East peace.

If this is in fact what the likes of Obama and his European and Australian counterparts think, apparently no one in the West is thinking very hard. The fact is that by backing Hamas against Israel, they are backing Hamas against Fatah and they are backing Iran, Syria, Turkey, Hamas and Hizbullah against Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. They are backing the most radical actors in the region – and arguably in the world – against states and regimes they have a shared strategic interest in strengthening.

There is absolutely no way this behavior advances the cause of peace.

The second plausible explanation is that the West’s support for Hamas is motivated by hatred of Israel. As Helen Thomas’s recent remarks demonstrated, there is certainly a lot of that going around.

The final plausible explanation for the West’s support for Hamas is that it has been led to believe that by acting as it is, it will buy itself immunity from attack by Hamas and its fellow members of the Iranian axis. As former Italian president Francesco Cossiga first exposed in a letter to Corriere della Serra in August 2008, in the early 1970s Italian prime minister Aldo Moro signed a deal with Yasser Arafat that gave the PLO and its affiliated organizations the freedom to operate terror bases in Italy. In exchange the Palestinians agreed to limit their attacks to Jewish and Israeli targets. Italy maintained its allegiance to the deal – and to the PLO against Israel – even when Italian targets were hit.

Cossiga told the newspaper that the August 2, 1980 bombing at the Bologna train station – which Italy blamed on Italian fascists – was actually the work of George Habash’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Eighty-five people were murdered in the attack, and still Italy maintained its agreement with the PLO to the point where it prosecuted and imprisoned the wrong people for the worst terrorist attack in its history.

Cossiga alleged that the deal is still in place today and that Italian forces in UNIFIL have expanded the deal to include Hamas’s fellow Iranian proxy Hizbullah. It isn’t much of a stretch to consider the possibility that Italy and the rest of the Western powers have made a similar deal with Hamas. And it is no stretch at all to believe that they will benefit from it as greatly as the Italian railroad passengers in Bologna did.

True, no one has come out and admitted to supporting Hamas. So too, no one has expressed anything by love for Israel and the Jewish people. But the actions of the governments of the West tell a different tale. Without one or more of the explanations above, it is hard to understand their current policies.

Since the flotilla incident, Netanyahu and his ministers have held marathon deliberations on how to respond to US pressure to accept an international inquisition into the IDF’s lawful enforcement of the legal blockade of the Gaza coast. Their deliberations went on at the same time as Netanyahu and his envoys attempted to convince Obama to stop his mad rush to give Hamas an outlet to the sea and deny Israel even the most passive right of self-defense.

It remains to be seen if their decision to form an investigative panel with international “observers” was a wise move or yet another ill-advised concession to an unappeasable administration. What is certain, however, is that it will not end the West’s budding romance with Hamas.

The West’s decision to side with Hamas is devastating. But whatever the reasons for it, it is a fact of life. It is Netanyahu’s duty to swallow this bitter pill and devise a strategy to protect the country from their madness.

Flotilla raid fails to boost Hamas status: poll

The May 31 raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla that dealt a major blow to Israel's blockade of the Hamas-run enclave has failed to bolster the Islamist group's popularity among Palestinians, a poll said on Tuesday.

The poll by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) found that if parliamentary elections were held today 45 percent of Palestinians would vote for the secular Fatah and just 26 percent for Hamas.

The results are almost identical to those of a March poll by the same group, "which means that Hamas has not benefited from (the) Gaza flotilla incident which took place only a few days before the conduct of the poll," PSR said.
However, the poll was in the process of being carried out when the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority postponed local elections on June 10, an unpopular decision widely blamed on the dominant Fatah.

"The public is likely to view the cancellation as an indication of a major failure in state and institution building... and an indication of fragmentation, panic and lack of leadership within Fatah," the report said.

Unsurprisingly, most Palestinians (43 percent) now view Turkey as the country most supportive of their cause following its harsh condemnation of Israel's seizure of the flotilla, in which nine Turkish activists were killed.

The next most supportive country was Egypt, with 13 percent.

Sixty percent believe the flotilla raid, which sparked global outrage, will lead to the weakening or end of Israel and Egypt's four-year blockade of Gaza, while just 18 percent think it will be strengthened.
The poll of 1,270 adults interviewed face-to-face in 127 random locations was carried out June 10-13 and had a margin of error of three percent.

Some 56 countries on Tuesday signed up to a declaration calling on Iran to investigate a deadly crackdown on street protests following the contested presidential election a year ago.

Norway and the United States have spearheaded a bid at the Geneva forum to chastise Iran for its violent suppression of demonstrations, including arrests and executions of dissidents, following presidential elections a year ago.

Some 55 states from across all regions -- half of them European Union (EU) members -- have endorsed the statement, which calls on Iran to uphold fundamental freedoms of expression, of the media and of assembly, diplomats say.
As Norway's ambassador Bente Angell-Hansen began to read out the text, Iran's ambassador Hamid Baeidi Nejad interrupted, invoking procedural grounds to object to being singled out.

Pakistan, speaking for the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), as well as African and non-aligned countries, swiftly backed Iran. The objection was to Iran's record, a "country-specific situation", being addressed under an agenda item on a landmark human rights meeting held in Vienna in 1993.

"Allowing this to happen ... is leading to a repeat of the practice of the Human Rights Commission where 'naming and shaming' was the name of the game and led eventually to the demise of the Commission," Pakistan's envoy Zamir Akram said, referring to the Council's largely discredited predecessor body.

Belgium's ambassador Alex Van Meeuwen, who currently chairs the forum, said that as long as a text addressed a relevant human rights situation it was admissible. He adjourned the session for several hours to allow private negotiations.
Marking one year anniversary
The United States and Norway have heavily lobbied countries to endorse the statement, according to diplomats and activists.

"We cannot let this Human Rights Council session go by without marking the one year anniversary of these events this month," reads the statement.

The 2009 post-election street protests, the worst unrest since the Islamic republic was founded in 1979, were put down violently by the Revolutionary Guards. Mass detentions followed. Two people were hanged and scores of detainees remain in jail.

The statement would add to pressure after extended sanctions agreed by the U.N. Security Council last week to punish Iran for what Western countries say is a nuclear weapons program.

It voices concern at "events including the violent suppression of dissent, detention and executions without due process of law, severe discrimination against women and minorities including people of the Baha'i faith and restrictions on freedom of expression and religion."

The Human Rights Council, dominated by developing nations wary of interference in their own affairs, rarely "names and shames" states. The main exception is Israel, regularly condemned for alleged abuses in its occupied territories.
“Fraudsters must go on trial”
Earlier on Tuesday Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi called for those who "committed fraud" in last year's presidential poll to be prosecuted, as he vowed to keep the anti-government movement alive.

"A fair trial of those who committed the election fraud, tortured and killed protesters must be held," Mousavi said, in a statement to mark the anniversary of the June 12, 2009 election.

Mousavi, along with the opposition's other key leader Mehdi Karroubi, has steadfastly rejected the re-election of Ahmadinejad in what they said was the result of a "fraudulent" election.

In the statement released on his website Kaleme.com, Mousavi, who was once a pillar of the Islamic regime but has turned into a bitter critic, announced a "new charter" of policy aims for the opposition movement.

He called for an "end to the involvement of police and military forces in politics, the independence of the judiciary, and prosecution of those in plainclothes," referring to Islamist vigilantes.

Mousavi urged authorities to release political prisoners and lift restrictions on political parties, and social movements.He criticized the siege of Karroubi on Sunday by pro-regime supporters at the house of Grand Ayatollah Yousef Sanaie in the holy city of Qom, central Iran.

"Attacking people, university students, offices of Grand Ayatollah Sanaie and Montazeri, and insulting Mr. Karroubi show the level of crisis among the attackers," Mousavi said.

"Those who ordered and executed the attack on sources of emulation will only help destroy the legitimacy of the regime," he said, referring to the Shiite religious leaders

Israel-US relations suffering a 'tectonic rift.'

Israeli-U.S. relations have undergone a huge shift amounting to what Israel's ambassador to Washington has termed "a genuine tectonic rift," media reports said on Sunday.

Briefing officials at the foreign ministry last week, ambassador Michael Oren described the state of ties between Israel and its closest ally as worse than a crisis, something akin to that of two continents drifting apart.
According to one diplomat quoted by the Haaretz daily, Oren used bleak terms to explain the changes which have taken place under the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama.

"Relations are in the state of a tectonic rift in which continents are drifting apart," Oren was quoted as saying by the diplomat.

Another diplomat who spoke to the top-selling Yediot Aharonot daily said there had been an historic change in Washington's approach to Israel.

"There is no crisis in Israel-U.S. relations because in a crisis there are ups and downs," he quoted Oren as saying.

Both papers quoted Oren as attributing the shift in sentiment to "interests and cold considerations" by Obama who did not have the same historical-ideological bent towards Israel as his predecessors.

The Israeli foreign ministry was not immediately available for comment on the reports, which came just over a week before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to the White House for talks with Obama.

Israeli-U.S. relations have taken a battering in recent months amid a row over settlement building in east Jerusalem and the fallout from a deadly Israeli raid on an international aid fleet trying to break the blockade on Gaza.

The two leaders had been due to meet on June 1 for a reconciliatory meeting that was called off at the last minute after the flotilla raid.

Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria agreed on Thursday to set up a free-trade zone, complete with a visa-free travel regime for their nationals, a joint declaration issued here said.

The four countries will establish a cooperation council "to develop a long-term strategic partnership" and "create a zone of free movement of goods and persons among our countries," it said.

The deal was agreed by the foreign ministers of the four countries who met on the sidelines of a Turkey-Arab cooperation forum in Istanbul.
Arab nations cheer Turkey for tough Israel stand
"Are we going to remain silent over the murder of nine people? We can't turn a blind eye to this banditry in international waters," Erdogan told the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum. "From now on, this can't continue as it is."

Arab league chief Amr Moussa also accused Israel’s continued "atrocity and assault" in violation of human rights and international law and praised Turkey for challenging Israel on the raid that left eight Turkish activists and a Turkish-American teenager dead.

Israel insists its commandoes acted in self-defense after being attacked by pro-Palestinian activists on the aid ships.

In the 1980s, however, something happened in Turkey which was inconceivable to happen in an Arab branch of the Brotherhood: The new generation of modern Turkish pro-Saudi Wahhabis ("Islamists") (today's Turkish prime minister Erdogan and president Gul) reconciled with Syria. They compelled the old Turkish Wahhabi ("Islamist") leader (former Turkish prime minister Erbakan) to retire, and limited him to leadership of an insignificant minority party constituting three percent of Turkish voters.

To really win the "War on Terror" it is necessary for the U.S. to invade Saudi Arabia, capture King Abdullah and the other 1,500 princes who constitute the "House of Sa’ud", to freeze their assets, to remove them from power, and to send them to Guantanamo for life imprisonment.  Then it is necessary to replace the Wahhabi Saudi terror-funding regime with a moderate, non-Wahhabi and pro-Western regime, such as a Hashemite Sunni Muslim constitutional monarchy.  Unless all this is done, the "War on Terror" will never be won.  It is possible to destroy Wahhabi al-Qa’ida, to capture or execute Bin Laden, al-Zarqawi, al-Zawahiri, etc., but this will not end the "War". After some years, Saudi princes will again start funding many similar Wahhabi terror organizations. The Wahhabi Saudi regime can only survive by increasing its support for terror.

Lebanese Threaten Mass March on Israeli Border

(Israelnationalnews.com) The anti-Israel flotilla has turned the tide of world opinion against Israel, Fatah leaders in Lebanon say, and the time is ripe for a mass civilian charge against Israel’s border.

Mounir Al-Makdah, a leading Fatah leader in Lebanon, says plans are being made for a mass charge against Israel’s northern border. “What can Israel do,” he asks, “kill the entire Palestinian nation [sic]?”

“And even if they kill all those who take part in the march, the number of remaining Palestinians will still be more than all the Jews in the world.”
Al-Makdah told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Sapir that the plans for the march are being made via letters to thousands of “Palestinians” living around the world inviting them to take part. “It could be that they will just break through the border, with their children and their elderly. What will Israel be able to do?”
“A wind of change has begun to blow,” he said, “and Israel has begun to be a yoke not only for the Palestinian nation, but for the whole world.”
“The freedom flotilla brings a message of the beginning of the end of Israel,” Al-Makdah said.

He made similar remarks to a French news agency earlier this week, saying that such marches should take place from all areas that border on Israel – Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, and Judea/Samaria. He said he hopes the Lebanese government, of which Hizbullah is a part, will soon grant a permit for the mass march.

Concept of 2-state "beginning to erode": Abbas

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday he feared the concept of a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians "is beginning to erode."

"I would like to express concern that the situation is very difficult," he said in remarks at a Washington think tank.

"The concept of a Palestinian state ... with an Israeli state, I fear, is beginning to erode," he said.

The Palestinian leader met at the White House on Wednesday with U.S. President Barack Obama to discuss Gaza's desperate plight and the worsening prospects for direct Israeli-Palestinian talks.

Abbas is due to hold more talks with senior US officials and lawmakers Thursday, including White House National Security Advisor James Jones. On Friday, he is to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before returning to the region.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and other senior commanders were present at the exercise. They reportedly toured its different locations and “participated in the learning process.”

The IDF reported that the exercise simulated various operational scenarios, and included reservist soldiers and officers. The forces rehearsed “matters of fitness for duty and readiness,” the IDF website reported.

Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi visited the main nexuses of the exercise and said: “The exercises and training are among the IDF's main activities. In the course of the exercises, IDF forces worked at improving readiness and implementing lessons learned from the Second Lebanon War and Cast Lead.”

The IDF said that the exercise was carried out as part of the army's annual training plan and in accordance with a pre-planned “training graph.”

Obama: US to Pour $400 Million into PA

(Israelnationalnews.com) “The situation in Gaza is unsustainable – [as is] the status quo in the entire Middle East.” So said U.S. President Barack Obama after meeting with Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Washington on Wednesday. See video below.

Obama repeated several times that a new solution other than a maritime blockade on Gaza must be found to address “Israel’s legitimate security needs.” 
The President also mentioned, once, the need for “more progress on both security as well as incitement issues” – to which Abbas responded, “I say in front of you, Mr. President, that we have nothing to do with incitement against Israel, and we’re not doing that.”

In actuality, however, the most recent report by Palestinian Media Watch shows that “the Palestinian Authority, the Fatah leaders and the Abbas-controlled official PA media continue to deny Israel’s existence, deny Israel’s right to exist, define the conflict with Israel as an uncompromising religious war for Allah, promote hatred through demonization, slander and libel, and glorify terror and violence.”

Obama: Two-State Solution

Obama reiterated that “a lot of work… remains to be done so that we can create a two-state solution in the Middle East in which we have an Israel that is secure and fully accepted by its neighbors, and a Palestinian people that have their own state, self-determination, and the ability to chart their own destiny.”

Regarding the flotilla and the blockade on Gaza, Obama said that he and Abbas discussed how they could promote “a better approach to Gaza.” Obama acknowledged that Israel “should not have missiles flying out of Gaza into its territories,” and even noted that “I think President Abbas agrees with this.” However, he said, “we also think that it is important for us to explore new mechanisms so that we can have goods and services, and economic development…” in Gaza. “And so we are going to be working hand in hand to make sure that we come up with a better approach.”

Questions on Obama's Proposal

“It seems to us,” Obama later explained, “that there should be ways of focusing narrowly on arms shipments, rather than focusing in a blanket way on stopping everything and then in a piecemeal way allowing things into Gaza.” He did not elaborate on how “focusing narrowly on arms shipments” would stop arms arriving as hidden contraband smuggled in among food and medicine supplies.

In the meantime, Obama said, the United States “is going to be announcing an additional $400 million in assistance for housing, school construction, business development -- not only in Gaza, but also in the West Bank, because we think it’s important for us to reaffirm once again our commitment to improving the day-to-day lives of ordinary Palestinians.”

Asked how the distribution of the money will be overseen, given the “problems” – others have accused PA leaders of downright corruption – in this area in the past, Obama said only, “”I’ll let my team give you the details in terms of how that will be administered and how the money will begin to flow.”

The oil spill on Deepwater Horizon platform in the Gulf of Mexico owned by British Petroleum is threatening to create not only an ecological catastrophe but political tempest as well.
President Barak Obama pulls no punches when talking about the events in the south of the country. In his interview with NBC on June 8 he reminded that he visited the Gulf several times and will be going again soon. He said that he knew exactly who was to blame. He promised the oil company will be punished.
He said he had been there before "most of these talking heads were even paying attention."I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar," the president added. "We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."

The President explained that the officials were watching BP’s efforts to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. They also keep an eye on the safety rules and monitor the quality of the products from the disaster area. Obama was asked to comment on a statement made by a BP executive who said that the Gulf was "a big ocean," and "the environmental impact of this disaster is likely to be very, very modest."
"He wouldn't be working for me after any of those statements," said Obama.
Obama tried to convince the audience that the government will make conclusions and do everything possible to improve the quality of life in the regions that suffered the most, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
"I am absolutely confident that we will overcome this crisis. And I'd really like to make it clear that we will not only contain the damage to Gulf of Mexico. We also use this situation as an opportunity to rethink our approaches, as well as the opportunity to work with state and local authorities to rebuild the coast, so that the quality of life of people in the region has improved as a result ", Obama stated.
In the interview, Obama also acknowledged that the situation for residents of the Gulf was difficult, but said he was confident that the country and the region would recover.
"People from the Gulf Coast ... need help across the country. They will need constant attention from the administration. And they will get it," the President said . He acknowledged that it will not be possible to stop the spill soon. Drilling of a diversion canal alone will take no less than two months.
The disaster that shook the US (and other countries) broke out on April 20. The spill stems from a sea floor oil gusher that followed Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion . The explosion killed 11 platform workers. The platform was burning for a day and a half, and on April 22 it sank. Every day 12 to 24 barrels of oil leak into the ocean, destroying all living organisms in the water. It turned the coast of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as some Florida beaches, into a disaster area.
The tragedy caused immense losses to the residents of these states. Many of them earn living by fishing, but the fish in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico have either died or are soaked in oil to the extent it is no longer edible. Numerous popular beaches were shut down. This does not include the expenses for eliminating the consequences of the spill.
Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen provided sad information on June 8. In his words, the process of stopping the leak will take until the fall. It will take years to purify the water, the bottom of the ocean and coastal areas. Hundreds of kilometers of the coast were contaminated.
On Monday BP stated that it allocated over 1 billion dollars to fight the consequences of the accident. Americans are not satisfied with it.
The polls conducted on June 7 by ABC and Washington Post say that the majority of the US people believe that the government has to criminally prosecute those responsible for the accident.
Americans are not happy with the actions of the government either. They think the government is not as efficient as it could be.
The events in the Gulf of Mexico may seriously affect the US domestic political scene. Five years ago George W. Bush’s inability to deal with the consequences of Katrina caused his approval ratings to drop significantly. The spill is a test for the current President.
The events in the Gulf of Mexico have revealed the imperfections of the US political and economical system. Businesses here have much more freedom than in Europe, Japan or even in Canada, and government control over the actions of businesses is much weaker. Ecological legislation is not as strict as in Scandinavia, Great Britain or Canada.
American officials used to explain it with the necessity to maintain the reputation of the US as a country where business is free. Is the price of the freedom of entrepreneurship too high? Now people in the Gulf of Mexico will have to pay for years for someone’s American dream.

Yahoo! and Apple Divide Jerusalem on iPhone

(Israelnationalnews.com) Internet giant Yahoo! and the Apple computer firm have apparently decided to pre-empt those pesky Israel-Palestinian Authority negotiations and divide the holy city of Jerusalem on their own.

Yahoo! -- which runs the weather software application for the slick Apple iPhone -- last month removed Israel's capital city from its list of international locations from which to view weather conditions.

Instead, one must now choose between East Jerusalem or West Jerusalem in order to figure out what the weather is going to be in the city.
The latitude and longitude coordinates for both locations are the same, as is the temperature and other weather details.

On the Yahoo! weather page, which is linked to The Weather Channel, one is offered two Middle East options when requesting weather information for Jerusalem – Jerusalem, Yerushalayim (IL), Jerusalem, and Palestinian Occupied Territories > West Bank, Jerusalem (PS).

Clearly Yahoo! and Apple executives have decided to recognize the Palestinian State long before direct negotiations have even been contemplated by the parties themselves, let alone conducted to determine actual borders.

Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, expressed his disappointment with the fact that “Jerusalem, which has been united for 43 years, has been divided by the computer giant and the popular search engine.”

Oren sent a letter of protest to both Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz and Apple CEO Steve Jobbs. He added that he and the rest of the Israel Embassy staff use the iPhone.

The Democrat Party beast of burden is foundering under the Obama administration’s heavy burden of an impending $19 trillion debt by 2015, trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, a 50-day-old oil spill in the Gulf that’s still leaking thousands of gallons a day, almost 10% unemployment with no end in sight, over three and a half million jobs lost since Obama took office, over a trillion dollars in stimulus spending that still hasn’t worked, a Southern border leaking illegal aliens like a sieve, the worst economy since Jimmy Carter, a health care bill nobody wanted with estimated cost overruns already in the billions – possibly trillions, allegations of political bribery pay-offs and cover-ups, all topped by a weak and dangerous foreign policy. And that’s just what’s in the left saddlebag. If Obama is truly looking for some ##### to kick, he doesn’t have to look any further than his own pathetic and incompetent Democrat ##### to start kicking.Maybe he can use a pair of those Texas cowboy boots he inherited from “W” – I hear they’re great for “##### kickin.”

Nationalist Russian Israelis Mock Leftist Rally in Tel Aviv

(Israelnationalnews.com) A recent leftist rally against a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square was crashed by proud nationalist Russian Israelis who aimed at making a mockery of the event.

Hundreds of people congregated on Saturday afternoon against Jewish Judea and Samaria, and in solidarity with Arab residents of Hamas-controlled Gaza and the recent terrorist-laden Gaza "aid" flotilla. The rally, called "The Government is Drowning Us All," was planned prior to the flotilla incident, but co-opted the issue on the day of the march.

However, the Sabbath-day event did not go off without a hitch. A large group of secular nationalist Russian Israelis infiltrated their march, holding banners in English and Russian ridiculing the leftists.

The nationalists, who were otherwise indistinguishable from the rest of the protestors, held signs including "We'll Stab for Peace", "We'll make the world abandon reason", "We Believe in blah-blah-blah", "What the hell am I doing here?" and "Don't mess with the Zohan", according to a report in the popular blog, The Muqata.

The rally against Jewish Judea and Samaria also witnessed a strong overt counter-rally of other citizens who were infuriated by the nature and timing of the Rabin Square protest.

Dozens of supporters of Jewish strength in Israel tried to disrupt the event, and may even have thrown a smoke grenade. Standing opposite a portion of the rally, counter-protestors sang slogans in support of Israeli Navy SEALS and sang Israel's national anthem, HaTikva.

They also shouted "traitors", "go to Gaza", and "terror supporters" at participants, from behind a blockade of police officers and riot police.

Anyone who remembers the early movie inspired by the New Age religious ideas 2001: Space Odyssey will recall the the unexplained scenes with the obelisk that mysteriously appears, and the sudden leap of higher consciousness in those who touched it. But at that time (1970) New Age “change agents” were under orders by the Hierarchy to keep a low profile; the viewers were shown nothing but a visual riddle, the keys to which were shared with the initiated. Obelisk which induces higher consciousness in those who touch it is obviously phallic symbol of the Aryan god Shiva who, according to Hindu mythology, reveals himself in lingam i.e. Phallus. The Babylonian king Hammurabi received his laws on the top of a phallus. The “revelation” for the “Sex and Drugs Revolution” came from the same source.

Shiva was and still is chiefly worshiped in the form of the linga, usually a short cylindrical pillar with rounded top, which is the survival of a cult older than Indian civilization itself.... Let me remind in this context revealing words of US President G.H. Americans will not support those who seek in order to replace a far-off tyranny with a local despotism. They will not aid those who promote a suicidal nationalism based upon ethic of hatred.” It was an insult the Ukrainians and other freedom fighters will not soon forget, and it had the benefit of opening the eyes of more than a few as to what of kind of bird this Bush really was (www.tarpley.net/bush24.htm). The Ukrainian are a nation of 60 million people and yet, ulike Palestinians they don't deserve full independence. Possibly, because, unlike the Palestinians, they don't live close to the Suez Canal.

Bad “Racial Karma” means The Jews don't belong to a “Favoured race”

In the Palestinian propaganda the Jews are treated as a mongrel race: “The twelve sons of Jacob fled to Egypt, interbred with the Egyptians there and became numerous. And here, let me point out how the KJV is helpful in such an undertaking. Following in the footsteps of the Nazi Propaganda the Palestinians embraced G. Bruno's defaming epithet denigrating the Jews as “the excrements of Egypt.” Hand in hand with the pendulum goes the map of the Middle East in the same UN building on which there is no Israel. People who don't understand that heliocentrism is physically and mathematically impossible don't understand much about Science.

The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of TM fame says, "There has not been and there will not be a place for the unfit. The fit will lead. If the unfit are not coming along, there is not place for them. Nonexistence of the unfit has been a law of nature." Ruth Montgomery, a New Age popularizer of A Course in Miracles, who in the LA Times was described as "someone who shows us how to love and how love is a potent force," nevertheless says this: "The souls who have helped bring on the chaos of the present century will have passed into spirit to rethink their attitudes, while the new race will engage in peaceful pursuits and uplifting spirits."

Because of their 'racial karma', the Jewish people have a singularly low potential for achieving entry to the New Age, having a 'blood taint' which is impossible to completely overcome. This, together with their stubborn insistence on one exclusive G-d and their uniqueness as a chosen people, makes them rejects for the Age of Aquarius. The continual Jew-hatred among the nations is their 'karma' catching up with them, as Alice Bailey wrote shortly after the Holocaust:

Taking into account New Age missionary efforts directed at Jews, they would prefer that before leaving the scene, the Jews would first put their G-d to death, by admitting that their faith was based on a fiction. Theosophy which became the surrogate religion of Anglo-American intellectual elites is dreaming about “the day when the mind of the western race has broken away from Mosaic chronology and Mosaic ideas of man and nature.” (See William W. Judge The Ocean of Theosophy. 1893, p.62) And that explains their admiration for men like A. Hitler or Ahmadinejad who speaks so eagerly about wiping Israel off the map.
The U.S. Policy in Harmony with the New Age Plan
In his article for New York Post of Nov. 8, 2005 Amir Taheri a member of Benadores Associates based in Washington criticized harshly the US propaganda trick which helped Ahmadinejad to win presidency. Here are a few excerpts from that article:

In Iran last June, the call for a boycott resonated with frustrated and apathetic voters. Many, if not most, moderates and reform advocates stayed home from the polls. That’s right: with what appeared to be endorsement of President Bush and dozens of American-based satellite television channels that broadcast in Farsi, the disillusioned young people of Iran effectively took one of the world’s most closely watched nuclear programs out of the hands of a reformer and placed it into the hands of a hard-line reactionary. Where Rafsanjani and Khatami tried to redefine Islam to please the modern world, a world that is shaped and dominated by Western ideas, Ahmadinejad is trying to revive the purest definition of the faith. He asserts that Islam is an alternative to the current global system, not a candidate for becoming a small part of it.

Seen in this context, his pledge to wipe Zionism off the map like “a stain of shame” is an attempt to force everyone to take sides, and to undermine the Jewish state as a temporary entity. He is asking everyone to decide the nature of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Is it only about statehood, borders, security, sharing of water, settlements and diplomatic relations? If so, it cannot, should not, be treated as a religious conflict, Muslim vs. Jew. It would be a political conflict, one of countless such throughout history and all the religious energy injected into it over the past half-century must be regarded as misplaced.

Those who have tried to build a life on the basis of a little bit of Islam and a little bit of Western modernism are made uncomfortable by Ahmadinejad – who is forcing everyone to take sides. He believes the world is heading for a clash of civilizations in which Islam is the only credible alternative to Western domination. And he is convinced that Islam will win. The dilemma that Ahmadinejad has created for Islamists inside and outside Iran remains. He says Islam is not just a flavor to add to policies that are not, indeed cannot be, Islamic. Either we go the whole way and abolish politics as a space distinct from religion, or we stop using religion as a device to give our policies the legitimacy they
do not deserve.

We remember that Pope Pius XII praised Hitler's election victory as the most democratic expression of German people's will. Steven Cook, Mideast specialist and fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations asked in his interview for Ted Phillips How will the U.S. deal with Hamas answered: “I think we’re going to follow the Israeli lead. If the United States seeks to isolate or undermine a Hamas-dominated government, it will reveal, from the Arab perspective, the U.S. efforts to promote change and democracy in the region as a sham. As it turns out Steven Cook was a daydreamer.

Hamas leaders said they won’t relinquish their demand for control of Jerusalem and a refugee “right of return” to Israel. “We will maintain our principles, our objection to the occupation, Jerusalem, the ‘right of return’ and the release of all the prisoners,” Ismail Haniyeh, leader of Hamas’ national list, said Thursday. Haniyeh said the Oslo Accords “infringed on Arab territory,” but said they had “become a fact” and should be accepted, though not recognized as legal. (JTA)

On the heels of John McCain’s strong statement to Israel and the Jews that he would “not allow a second Holocaust” to happen, Barack Hussein Obama was asked whether he’d prevent a second Holocaust by reporters during his trip to Israel.
The setting for the question is notable. It was just before he made a photo op visit to “Yad VaShem,” the Holocaust museum in Israel.
What is also notable was Obama’s “response” and how it was “covered” by the Mainstream media. While the Wall Street Journal’s Jay Solomon and Cam Simpson noted the question, they did not note the response. Why not?
Well, ABC News’ Jake Tapper did, and it’s telling and frightening (thanks to my friends Sean and Frank at WCBM for the tip):

Upon arrival at Yad Vashem, Obama was greeted by Avner Shalev, chairman of Yad Vashem.An Israeli journalist called out to Obama: “Can you ensure that there will be no second Holocaust?”

In the “Hall of Remembrance,” Obama put on a white yarmulke, lit the “eternal flame” and placed a white chrysanthemum wreath on a stone slab. Obama then went to the museum’s Janusz Korczak Plaza, where he signed the guest book.
Jake Tapper goes on to quote Obama’s BS speech about how terrible he feels about the Holocaust. Blah, blah, blah. Then, this:

Once again an Israeli journalist asked the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee how he’d help prevent a second Holocaust. “Senator can you assure Israel that there will be no second Holocaust despite Iran’s threat to wipe us off the map?” he asked.Obama demurred, saying that it wasn’t appropriate to answer the question there.

“This is Yad Vashem!” the journalist responded. Obama said he would answer the question at a later press availability.
And, of course, Obama never answered the question.
Disgusting. The question is a no-brainer. If you don’t have an automatic, “I will assure that there won’t be a second Holocaust,” response, then you don’t deserve to occupy a square foot of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

John McCain initiated the conversation about a second Holocaust, brining it up himself and saying he’ll assure it won’t happen. Barack Obama had to be asked, and he still couldn’t bring himself to answer.
G-d help us.

Hey, Barack Obama, don’t put on your phony white satin yarmulke again. Sadly, we know what’s inside the head it covers.

No Holds Barred: Open season on the Jewish state

07/06/2010 The Jews who were murdered in Germany and Poland cannot speak out. The rest of us, however, have absolutely no excuse.

Helen Thomas’s stomach-turning comments about the Jews returning to Germany and Poland, where six million were killed, are striking for their racism and insensitivity. Whether she said them out of senility or anti-Semitism is beside the point. Either way she has no business working for any respectable media organization or sitting as the senior White House correspondent directly in front of the president of the United States. When Don Imus made racially charged statements against a woman’s basketball team, candidate Barack Obama demanded he be fired. It will be interesting to see how President Obama, who could not offer a single word of support for Israel since the flotilla affair, will react.

One can only imagine the uproar against Thomas had she said that all blacks should go home to Africa, or illegal immigrants to Tijuana. It seems that Jews are the only group that you can attack with impunity, because they are the only ones unwise enough to tolerate it. Better yet, we’re the only group often filled with so much self-loathing that we actually initiate many of the attacks.

FEW OF us are surprised that it is a coterie of Jewish advisers to Obama who have joined him in condemnations of Israel over Jews building in Jerusalem. This week The New York Times published an article by Michael Chabon arguing that many Jews are “blockheads” and notions of Jewish intelligence are highly overrated. He may be correct. But as I read this strange screed from one of America’s most celebrated Jewish novelists, I wondered if, say, Maya Angelou would ever pen an article about how many black dumbbells there are. Attacks on one’s own seems to be an art form perfected specifically by Jews.

Helene Cooper wrote a column in the Times asking whether Israel has become a strategic liability to the US. She quoted many senior Jewish political advisers to the Democratic Party who advised that if Israel continues to embarrass the US, it might be time for the superpower to distance itself from the little Jewish irritant.

The criticism made for interesting reading, implying as it did that while Israel is an embarrassment to the US, its relationship with such great human rights exemplars as Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey ought to be sources of downright pride.

Turkey merits special mention because not only does its media accuse the American military of harvesting organs from helpless Iraqis, which they cite as one of the reasons for the American invasion, but because Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sees fit to call Israel barbarous, lecture Jews about not murdering and refers to Hamas as freedom fighters. Curiously, at the same time he was spewing his venom toward the Jewish state this past week, the pope was in Cyprus where he was being publicly begged by Archbishop Chrysostomos II, the leader of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, to stop the illegal Turkish occupation of Cyprus, now in its 34th year, and protect Christians from growing attacks by Turks.

Just prior to the pope’s visit, a Christian bishop had been stabbed to death outside his home in the port of Iskenderun. The archbishop said that Turkey had “barbarously invaded” Cyprus and “continues to carry out its obscure plan, which includes the annexation of the lands now under military occupation and then conquest of the whole of Cyprus. They wish to make everything Greek and Christian disappear from occupied Cyprus.” Of course, Turkey won’t even acknowledge its genocide of the Armenians, a position that Obama has shamefully supported in order not to offend Turkey’s belligerent leader.

Of course, Cooper’s article quotes J Street head Jeremy Ben-Ami whom journalists have come to appreciate because of his consistency and reliability in always saying something disparaging about Israel. In this case he is quoted as saying “he represents Jews who... are raising the issue of Israeli government actions as a strategic liability for the United States.”

I LIVED in England for 11 years and was sickened by the regular abandonment of Israel by some of the most high-profile Anglo-Jews whenever Israel’s actions became controversial. For those wondering why a floodgate of anti-Semitism has opened in Britain over the last few years, look no further than the fact that Israel’s greatest haters can often point to Jewish critics as being much more strident than them. And still it continues, with even high profile Jewish leaders like Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks remaining mum on Israel even while it was assailed by countless countries for enforcing a blockade against a terror organization that has fired 10,000 rockets against it.

Still, I never believed that American Jewry would emulate this cowardice. But Obama’s public abandonment of Israel is directly traceable to the small price he pays among American Jews. On my radio show, many callers contend that Obama is an anti-Semite. I condemn such character assassination in the strongest possible terms. Obama has elevated Jews to some of the highest positions, including his most recent nominee for the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan.

Rather, the president’s inability to condemn Hamas and support Israel, which is a stain on his presidency, results from his considerable moral confusion and a misguided sense of right and wrong. Under Obama, America has retreated substantially from president George W. Bush’s policies of promoting democracy and human rights and has reverted to Kissingerian realpolitik, ready to make deals with tyrants so long as it promotes an artificial sense of peace But Obama can get away with it because American Jewry has become so silent and so weak.

Whenever Israel undertakes controversial action, American Jews begin writing op-eds in The Atlantic and The New Yorker about how the oncemoral nation has lost its way. Funny how those same writers do not condemn Obama’s policy of Predator drone strikes against Taliban leaders that inevitably involve considerable civilian casualties.

Sorry guys. Israel is going to remain controversial, as one might expect from any country under a constant existential assault from nearly all its neighbors. When threatened by Hitler, Britain leveled whole German cities. The US did the same to the Japanese. Israel has never even pondered such actions, even as thousands of its citizens have been blown to smithereens.

The Jews who were murdered in Germany and Poland cannot speak out in support of a Jewish state.

The rest of us, however, have absolutely no excuse.

Increased Violence in Turkish-Occupied Kurdistan

(Israelnationalnews.com) Three Kurdish resistance fighters were killed over the weekend during clashes with Turkish military forces currently occupying Northern Kurdistan (often referred to as South East Turkey). Two of the rebels were killed near Uludere in Sirnak province, close to the border with Iraqi Kurdistan, when soldiers pursued a group of fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who had allegedly detonated explosives on a road as a military vehicle passed. The blast had failed to claim any casualties.

A third rebel was killed in Beytussebap, also in Sirnak, in a battle that erupted after a group of PKK guerrillas opened fire on a Turkish police checkpoint.

Last Friday, PKK spokesman Ahmed Denis announced that the rebels had ended a unilateral truce with Turkey – in place since April 2009 – "because of Turkey's continuing hostility towards the Kurdish people."

The statement came against a backdrop of rising violence between Turkish forces and the PKK.  In one of the bloodiest attacks in recent months, the PKK fired rockets at a navy base last Monday, killing six soldiers and wounding seven.

Since 1984, the PKK has been engaged in a war of liberation for the mainly Kurdish populated territories that make up the north of historic Kurdistan but currently exist as Turkey’s southeast. The war for Kurdish independence has since claimed roughly 45,000 lives, with Kurds making up the vast majority of casualties.

As a non-Arab Middle Eastern minority, the Kurds hold positive attitudes towards Israel and generally view Zionism as a model to follow in their quest for independence. The PKK has demanded an end to all discrimination in Turkish laws against ethnic Kurds, hoping instead to be granted full political freedoms. The party has also demanded Turkey's recognition of the Kurds' identity in its constitution and of their language as a native language along with Turkish in Kurdish populated areas. Most Kurds currently living under Turkish occupation openly sympathize with the PKK despite it being considered a 'terrorist' organization by both Ankara and Washington. www.IsraelNationalNews.com

Obama Official: Netanyahu Waiting for ‘President Palin’

(Israelnationalnews.com) The Netanyahu government’s attitude to the United States shows it is “waiting for President [Sarah] Palin, an Obama official reportedly told Peter Beinart, writing for the Atlantic Monthly news site. Palin was the Republican candidate for vice president two years ago and is considered a front-running candidate for the next presidential election in 2012.

“As an Obama official once told me about the Netanyahu team, with amazement, ‘these guys are actually waiting for President Palin,’” wrote Beinart, a senior political writer for The Daily Beast and associate professor of journalism and political science at City University of New York.

In a critical article noting that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and senior government officials preach to the chorus of right-wing and Christian fundamentalist groups in the United States, Beinart cited the American education and background of the Prime Minister and senior aides. Prime Minister Netanyahu learned at a Philadelphia high school and his close adviser Ron Dermer and Ambassador to the United States were born there.

He maintained that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s reaction to the flotilla crisis “shows just how out of touch he is with America” while ignoring what Beinart said is the “need to join the age of Obama.”

“This familiarity breeds overconfidence and ignorance,” Beinart argues. “When Netanyahu travels to Washington, he speaks before Jewish audiences that mostly dislike Barack Obama’s Israel policy, even though according to a recent American Jewish Committee survey, American Jews overall support it by a margin of close to two to one. When he’s not speaking to right-wing Jews, he’s speaking to right-wing Christians. And when he’s not speaking to right-wing Christians, he’s speaking to former Bush administration officials who expect to soon be back in their old jobs.”
Beinart also asserted that today’s Arab leaders, such as Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who learned at an American university, support non-violence. Beinart contrasted him with Yasser Arafat, although Fayyad is often careful to be photographed with a picture of Arafat in the background.

Biden, Mubarak meet in shadow of flotilla raid

United States Vice President Joe Biden met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday as tensions mounted in the Middle East over a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid convoy.

Biden arrived in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday, accompanied by senior White House staff and National Security officials.

The talks lasted about 90 minutes, during which they discussed "a full range of bilateral and regional issues," a U.S. embassy spokesman told AFP.

Biden's visit came after a botched naval operation by U.S. ally Israel last week which killed nine people on board an aid ship headed for Gaza and threatened to stall US-brokered proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
The Turkish-owned boat was part of a six-ship flotilla trying to bust a four-year blockade imposed by Israel on the impoverished and overcrowded Gaza Strip. Another aid boat, the Irish-owned Rachel Corrie, was intercepted on Saturday.

On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said Israel should be "ashamed of itself" for the deadly raid, but insisted proximity talks were not affected.

He said indirect talks between Israel and the Palestinians were "ongoing" and warned that suspending them would hamper Palestinian hopes for the creation of a state.

"If anyone speaks of ending these contacts, he is preventing the Palestinians from achieving their aspirations through political action," Abul Gheit said.
Indirect peace talks
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas headed to Turkey on Sunday on his way to Washington for talks with U.S. President Barak Obama on the indirect peace negotiations with Israel -- talks which Abbas says are already running into trouble.

"We are going through difficult talks with the Israelis. There are lots of obstacles," he told a group of young Palestinians on Friday.

Despite a wave of global outrage over the Israeli commando assault, the White House has refused to explicitly single out Israel for blame.

Biden said on Wednesday that Israel has the right to protect its security by boarding ships heading for Gaza, but added that the United States would continue to press Israel to improve living conditions for Palestinians.

"I think Israel has an absolute right to deal with its security interest," Biden said in an interview with the "Charlie Rose" show broadcast by PBS television.

"The one thing we have to do is not forget the plight of these Palestinians there... they're in bad shape."

Rafah border crossing

On Tuesday, in the wake of the Israeli assault, Mubarak ordered the opening of the Rafah border crossing -- the only gateway to Gaza that bypasses Israel -- indefinitely.

The impoverished Gaza Strip has been under a crippling blockade since the Islamist Hamas movement, which won legislative elections in 2006, routed forces loyal to Abbas's Fatah from the enclave.

Egypt had for its part tightened the blockade by building an underground barrier to block smuggling tunnels linking Gaza and Egypt, on which Palestinians rely for many basic goods, but which are also used by Hamas to bring in weapons.

Mubarak's surprise move to open the border has allowed some additional aid into Gaza, but only a restricted category of Palestinians such as those seeking treatment or study abroad are permitted to cross.

Egypt, once a key broker between Israel and the Palestinians, has seen its role as chief mediator decrease, but it remains a vital ally to the United States in the region, concentrating in recent months on inter-Palestinian negotiations.

Biden was scheduled to visit Egypt in March, but the trip was cancelled after Mubarak was hospitalized.

His visit to Egypt comes as part of an African tour which takes him to Kenya and South Africa where he will represent the United States at the World Cup opening ceremony.
