The IDF Spokesperson’s office is reporting that a delegation of some 60 IDF commanders arrived in Poland on Monday, April 16, as part of the Witnesses in Uniform program. Guided by educators from the Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial Museum, the officers started a four day study of pre-war Poland, the Holocaust, and contemporary Jewish Polish life. “It is very, very difficult to talk about the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust. It’s impossible to comprehend such a number. So the way to make it as comprehensible as possible is through the personal narrative,” said Cpt. Liat Carmi, who oversees the program. This is the 169th Witnesses in Uniform group sent to Poland by the IDF, which plans to send a total of 16 groups just this year. The trip does not focus only the horrors of the Holocaust. “We are talking about a thousand years of Jewish history in Poland,” said Cpt. Carmi. The participants stayed in Warsaw and Krakow, and visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp and other memorial sites. At some of the sites, the soldiers held military memorial services. The participants concluded each day of the journey with a reflective discussion. Commanders explored issues such as how to incorporate the ethical lessons gleaned from the journey into their leadership as commanders, how to convey the history of the Holocaust to the soldiers under their command, and how the Holocaust influences their identities as IDF soldiers.

Foreign Policy magazine reported in an exclusive piece this week that Israel has purchased an Azeri airfield on Iran's northern border, prompting the United States to watch very closely. Journalist Mark Perry wrote the Obama administration is monitoring Israel's relations with Azerbaijan, particularly its military ties. Israel has tightened up its relations with Baku over the past several years, helping Azerbaijan modernize its military with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and becoming its second-largest customer for oil. The IDF canceled a $150 million contract to develop and manufacture drones with the Turkish military after Ankara demanded an apology following the Mavi Marmara flotilla attempt to breach Israel's maritime blockade of Gaza. “The Israelis have bought an airfield,” an official told the journalist, “and the airfield is called Azerbaijan.” The Americans believe Israel may use the site as a springboard for an attack on Iran's nuclear plants, or as a landing and refueling spot following one. The site could also be used for aircraft needed for search, rescue and recovery in the wake of an attack.

UNSC rejects Palestine's bid for membership

The UN Security Council Committee for Admission of New Members was unable to endorse Palestine's bid to join the ranks of this international organization. The draft report circulated at the UN headquarters in New York said that the votes of the committee's 15 Member States were divided. On October 31, Palestine was granted full UNESCO membership. Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the PKK during the past over two decades.

Madison Grant's Nordic Theory

Grant is most famously the author of the popular book The Passing of the Great Race in 1916, an elaborate work of racial hygiene detailing the "racial history" of Europe. Coming out of Grant's concerns with the changing "stock" of American immigration of the early 20th century (characterized by increased numbers of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe, as opposed to Western and Northern Europe), Passing of the Great Race was a "racial" interpretation of contemporary anthropology and history, stating race as the basic motor of civilization. Similar ideas were proposed by Gustav Kossinna in Germany. Grant promoted the idea of the "Nordic race"—a loosely defined biological-cultural grouping rooted in Scandinavia—as the key social group responsible for human development; thus the subtitle of the book was The racial basis of European history. As an avid eugenicist, Grant further advocated the separation, quarantine, and eventual collapse of "undesirable" traits and "worthless race types" from the human gene pool and the promotion, spread, and eventual restoration of desirable traits and "worthwhile race types" conducive to Nordic society: A rigid system of selection through the elimination of those who are weak or unfit—in other words social failures—would solve the whole question in one hundred years, as well as enable us to get rid of the undesirables who crowd our jails, hospitals, and insane asylums. The individual himself can be nourished, educated and protected by the community during his lifetime, but the state through sterilization must see to it that his line stops with him, or else future generations will be cursed with an ever increasing load of misguided sentimentalism. URUMQI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan said member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should consider setting up a free trade agreement (FTA) which, once in place, would cover about three fifths of the Eurasia's landmass. Zhong told a forum at the on-going China-Eurasia Expo in the northwestern city of Urumqi that such a FTA will further facilitate trade and create a sound environment for pragmatic regional economic cooperation. "Eying the trend of economic globalization, Beijing considers that SCO members should discuss the possibility of setting up a FTA within the organization at a proper time," the vice minister said. The SCO, founded in Shanghai in June 2001, groups China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The six member states cover an area of over 30 million square kilometers, or about three fifths of Eurasia, with a population of 1.455 billion, about a quarter of the world's total. Trade among SCO members grew seven times over the past decade to reach 8.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, Zhong said, adding that significant progress had also made in the cooperation on energy, transportation, and telecommunications. In November 2009, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev presented a draft proposal on a new European security agreement as an alternative to NATO. The document called the United States, the European Union and Russia the "three branches of European civilization," and assigned priority to the UN's role in international affairs.

Halley found the same astrological belief in Newton’s work. The two are to discuss the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Peres met Wednesday with Gilad Shalit's parents, Noam and Aviva, in advance of his meeting with the Pope. “We must never lose hope, we must continue to fight for Gilad's return,” he said. Shalit's parents have led a campaign to bring their son home even at the expense of releasing many hundreds of convicted terrorists, including those responsible for multiple murders. Peres praised the two for their struggle, saying, “I am proud of the noble way in which you are struggling to bring back your son Gilad, and I am proud of the Israeli public for standing at your side.” Shalit's parents asked the president to use his influence to push for Gilad's release. The "Arab Spring" Islamist fiasco, so lauded by Obama, is taking place in the shadow of Iran's nuclear threat. And to top it all, he thinks he can silence US Jews.

Years before the Obama presidency, Tunisia was considered the best example of a moderate, pragmatic Arab country. This past week, in the first democratic elections ever held in this nation, Tunisia became an Islamic state.
In Libya, after the world watched the public lynching of deposed leader Muammar Kaddafi, his body was put on display in a supermarket freezer. Libya's new leader, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, enthusiastically supported by President Obama, declared that Sharia (Islamic law) would be the “basic source” of all legislation – meaning we should forget about democracy there as well.
Under Sharia, Allah, vis-à-vis the Koran, makes the laws, not man, and what interesting laws they are...
It’s important to understand that Obama’s "small print" and "leading from behind" approach played a significant role in facilitating Libya’s transition to an Islamic state.
Egypt, the largest Arab nation and until recently America's closest Arab ally in the Middle East, will be holding elections in November. All forecasts predict that the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood will win the elections, transforming Egypt into an Islamic state. Remember, it was Obama who abandoned President Hosni Mubarak, humiliating him in public, calling on him to resign, and allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to take over Egypt.

The "Arab Spring" so warmly supported by President Obama has thrown the Arab nations of North Africa into the arms of the most radical of Islamic jihadist movements, paving the way for a renewed Islamic caliphate from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.
All this is taking place under the umbrella of a nuclear Iran, creating a strategic threat not only to Israel, but to America as well.
Lets assume for a moment that Obama did not support the so-called Arab Spring for ideological reasons, but erroneously created the situation simply by being a novice, that is he couldn't help himself. That would infer that the jihadist takeover of the Middle East is the direct result of the president’s lack of experience, lack of common sense and sheer incompetence. Either way, Obama comes up looking much less capable than he claims to be.
Perhaps many Americans share my disappointment; especially those who were so hopeful three years ago when then Senator Obama announced his candidacy. At the time, he spoke with seemingly earnest conviction about meeting the nation's challenges, the failure of leadership, and the chronic avoidance of tough decisions.Today, nearly three years into the Obama presidency and the “Brave New World” he helped create in this region of the world, we see Arab nations collapsing like dominoes in the Islamic takeover of the Middle East.
In the coming year, with Obama focusing on the 2012 election, I think we can expect to see little if any direct involvement by him in the Middle East. The president is reluctant to risk another confrontation with Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Obama's political strategists want him to retain and even expand his base of Jewish support and not lose their votes in key states.
I believe he’ll seek to empower others, including European leaders, to do his bidding in hopes of not losing the Jewish vote in 2012. Some expect him to use European and Arab leaders to use pressure Netanyahu politically and economically, causing him to capitulate and carry out policies Obama supports. Why risk the support of American Jews in the upcoming election? Why pay a political price when European and Arab leaders don’t have a Jewish constituency to worry about. Let others carry the burden and take the heat.
This will be one of the major political challenges Israel will have to deal with this year.
Unfortunately, Obama is using a similar strategy of letting others to carry the burden of his misguided policies in American domestic politics as well. The recent Anti-Defamation League & American Jewish Committee unity pledge on Israel is only the latest example of how President Obama burdens others with politically difficult choices so as to focus attention away from himself and avoid being abandoned electorally by supporters of Israel. By convincing American Jewish organizations to avoid criticizing or challenging Obama's foreign policy approach towards Israel; he has achieved the opposite result and sparked a heated debate that will only strengthen the perception of Obama of being a genuine incompetent.
This attempt to silence those that question the Obama's administration's foreign policy towards Israel is not only unworthy of the best of America's tradition of free speech but reminds us all of the imposed silence on the Jewish community by the Democratic Party during the Holocaust.
Obama's pathetic attempt to silence Jews will not succeed. Today as opposed to the 1940's, Israel exists, empowering Jews to stand up everywhere and be heard. Gone are the days in which Jews must conform to White House dictates.
Obama's latest insult to the Jewish Community should remind us all what to expect should Obama win the re-election and be freed of electoral constraints. Obama's latest attempt to manipulate the Jewish community provides a glimpse into his "Brave New World."

Dozens of anti-Israel activists attempted to barge into the Israeli consulate in Boston over the weekend in protest over Israel's seizure of the Canadian-Irish flotilla ships that attempted to sail to Gaza. Bearing PA flags, the activists attempted to storm the building but were turned back. They swore to return, shouting slogans about how the “apartheid regime in Israel must fall.”
The activists were “spillovers” from the Occupy Boston protests, one of many Occupy Wall Street protests, some with anti- Semitic undertones, being held in the U.S. demanding social justice. At least three people have been arrested on drug charges in the protests over the past several days, and police report numerous knife fights between homeless individuals who are participating in the protests. Police also report a significant rise in vandalism in downtown Boston.

Meanwhile, six of the flotilla members who were arrested Friday were released on Saturday night. One of the detainees was an Israeli citizen, Mag'id Ca'il, an Arab from Haifa. He was interviewed by a correspondent of Iranian television who accompanied by the flotilla. In the interview, he claimed he was threatened by IDF soldiers.

Police have been arranging for the deportation of the flotilla members, but several of them told reporters Saturday night that they were refusing to leave Israel. The activists said that they preferred to remain in prison in Israel and go to court in order to make their opinions heard, than to leave voluntarily.

The former US President Bill Clinton feels that Russian immigrants and settlers in the Middle East are the main barrier in the way of reaching a settlement in the region. He told the Global Initiative conference in New York that Israel’s Russian-speaking population is the least interested in concluding an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. The former US President complained that 16% of Israelis are Russian-speakers, which is a shocking problem, since they make Israel a different country.

In a press conference Friday, President Obama directly told reporters that Israel should meet Abbas' demand but ignored the Israeli demand, stated in a reporter's comment that “Abbas…said the Palestinians won’t recognize Israel as a Jewish state.” The reporter continued, “The question is, if these talks fail at an early stage, will this administration disengage? Or maybe you’re ready to step up and deepen your personal involvement.”
